Another #Hobby Marketplace for you? πŸ₯΄

Is our attention spread to thin?

What a roller coaster! If you love volatility then Trevor Lawrence provided plenty of it on Saturday night. At one point I was watching prices swing almost 25% on some of his prime PSA 10's RC (Prizm/Select). For a brief moment it reminded me of 2020/21 when that volatility would happen.....well...every night. It's always clear that a player is reaching pandemonium when you see their Draft cards selling at abnormal rates [almost 80 Prizm Draft Lawrence's sold within 12 hours of game ending). *WARNING* don't ever fall into that trap

Earlier this week PSA / Goldin announced that the new Goldin marketplace will be opening in the next few weeks. It made me wonder what the ratio of πŸ™„ to πŸ˜³ was.... what is your reaction to that news? Can the hobby really support another marketplace? Does the hobby need another marketplace?

The reality is that PSA will inherently make the Goldin marketplace viable in the short-term. Even the small % of folks that will leverage the ease of a PSA submission <> Goldin Vault connection, will help build momentum. Which leads to my takeaway in this news; partnerships/acquisitions will be the lifeblood of the hobby in 2023. These will be commonplace, so prepare yourself.

A few companies that wouldn't surprise me on the acquisition front.

  • Beckett/BGS -- They would get some nice juice from a partnership/acquisition

  • ALT -- another marketplace that seems ripe for a takeover

  • Shellz/Smooth Sleeves/Superior Fit -- Lots of sleeves....Not enough demand?

CARD MARKET HEALTH

What a response! Nearly every category (price, volume, average sale) exceeded the week prior. Just an overall incredible week for Sports Cards across eBay. This looks even better on a 90 day comparison. Just a very strong week of sports card sales.

One area to point out (not shown here) is the AVERAGE SALE PRICE per transaction. They all increased week over week EXCEPT for GRADED CARDS, which saw a decrease from $128.69 to $121.43. This was because there was almost to 12,000 MORE graded card transactions this week (to 98,855).

That's $27.5 million in sales in just those categories the past 7 days. My goodness. Now I'm really excited to see what this next week brings us.

Whoa! This week's TOP 10 is a great mix of vintage and modern. A few that really stick out to me. First, the Brock Purdy Certified 1/1... just an easy $22,500. If that seller waited until this week...is that a $30,000 card?

Second, the 69 Yastrzemski PSA 10... this is simply a case of the PSA set registry winning the day. The PSA 9 sold a few days before.... guess how much?

$272

The PSA 10 sold for 84x the PSA 9!  Someone go crack a few 9's and resubmit. πŸ€”
